How RHITES Turned a DIY Resource Hub Into a Scalable Info Platform

Hey Reader,

When we first started working with RHITES—a nonprofit focused on making reproductive healthcare policy easier to understand—they were already doing incredibly important work.

Founded in October 2022 by an experienced lawyer after a request from the reproductive health community, RHITES set out to create a curated resource library centered around one key idea: telehealth could be the future of reproductive healthcare access.

Their organization quickly became a trusted resource for navigating abortion and telehealth policy across the United States, even earning recognition as a source in major publications like Vox, The Washington Post, and WIRED.

But while their influence was growing, their digital presence hadn’t quite caught up yet.

Their original website was built on Squarespace and packed with valuable information, but the content had slowly accumulated over time without a clear organizational structure. Important resources were buried within long pages, making it difficult for visitors to find exactly what they were looking for.

At the same time, RHITES’ most valuable resource—their interactive policy maps—had been built entirely in-house. While the DIY approach was surprisingly impressive, the existing setup was beginning to limit what the team could do next.

It was time to evolve the platform into something that could support their mission long-term.

So alongside a brand refresh and website redesign, we worked with the RHITES team to reimagine their digital ecosystem from the ground up—including designing and building multiple interactive policy maps supported by a custom backend database their team could manage internally.

And while the project touched almost every part of their brand and website, here are a few of the changes that made the biggest impact:

Refining their logo through a thoughtful evolution that improved legibility across different sizes while ensuring the mark remained ADA-compliant

Expanding their color palette beyond the original blues to introduce warmer tones like reds and yellows—bringing more vibrancy and humanity to a serious subject matter

Transitioning their typography from a non-Google font the team couldn’t easily access to Jost, a warmer and more approachable typeface that adds personality and consistency across their brand

Restructuring their website content into a clearer architecture so visitors can quickly find the policy information and resources they need

Designing and developing multiple interactive policy maps that make complex healthcare regulations easier to understand at a glance and a flexible backend database the RHITES team can update as policy changes

Creating a scalable website foundation that will allow the RHITES team to continue expanding their content library as their organization grows

Projects like this are always especially meaningful because they combine thoughtful design with real-world impact.

By giving RHITES a more vibrant brand, a clearer website structure, and a flexible interactive map system, their platform is now better equipped to support the growing demand for accurate, accessible reproductive healthcare information.
